Dr. Laura Hussey

Dr. Laura Hussey grew up in Massachusetts with a love of all things animal. As a young girl, she spent time caring for family pets including dogs, rabbits, hamsters, homing pigeons and chickens. She participated in the local 4H canine program, and spent much of her time in barns working with and riding horses. She attended Delaware Valley University where she graduated in 2008 with a B.S. in large animal science focusing on equine science and management. While studying for her undergraduate degree, she had the opportunity to travel to Ireland one summer to work in a veterinary practice affiliated with the Irish National Stud Farm. Upon graduation, she was bitten by the “Travel Bug” and she set off to explore Europe. She settled in Spain for a time working in the Spanish school system teaching English. Returning home, she spent a year at a small animal emergency and specialist facility before returning to Europe to complete her veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College of London, England. While completing her degree, Dr. Hussey had the opportunity to contribute to two research projects, one involving cancer in animals and the other involving genetic diversity in aquatic animals.

After graduation, she volunteered in Egypt at a charity hospital that treated working horses and donkeys, as well as doing some small animal emergency work and even had a camel for a patient! She has experience treating farm animals and horses, but has found a love of small animal medicine. Dr. Hussey is looking forward to working with the team at Magnolia to bring high quality care to Ocala’s pets and their owners.

In her free time, she enjoys going on adventures, doing horsey things, and doing anything that involves being in, on, around, or under the water.

  • Everyone on the staff was helpful and kind. Ursula was frightened, but Dr. Hussey put her at ease. We have been coming to Magnolia Animal Hospital for many years and have never been disappointed. Thank you for caring for my senior dogs!
